Local Breaking News
Henry is speed crawling and has a tooth. I'm pretty sure it was 10 days ago I reported he was still sporting a toothless grin. Sad day. Oh, and as of Wednesday, Henry is able to get to the sitting position all by himself. Next week he'll be driving.

More Pre-Christmas
I stayed up late one night wrapping as many presents as I could. I knew John Dickson would be thrilled to see presents under the tree, and I thought it would add to his excitement. WRONG. I mean, don't get me wrong, he loved it, but he was borderline obsessed with opening his, which he immediately idenfied as his, since it was the biggest. Fortunately he was right. He did a lot of laying right in front of the tree and just staring at the presents:

A few days later, I came home from work and found this Christmas robot had moved in:

This was my Christmas present from Adam. It was how he wrapped my gift card. I loved it, and its things like that that make me love him more.
My favorite part of Christmas are these:

My mom cross stitched both of those. They took her about 8 months a piece, and to say I love them would be an understatement. I keep them, along with our photo albums and scrapbooks in the closet next to the front door. In case of a fire, after people and animals are out, those are the next to be rescued. (Of course, this is assuming the fire is considerate enough to start in the back of the house).
My parents have this angel on top of their tree that they got for their first Christmas. They paid less than a dollar for her, she is made of cardboard, felt and plastic, and she is gosh awful ugly. She has been on top of their tree since I was born, and I have been begging and patiently waiting for her to move to my house and live on top of my tree. They cant seem to find the perfect angel to replace her, which is amazing, because almost any angel would be a step up. I think thats part of why I love her so much. Next year I steal her. I don't have a picture, I just thought you should know.
And this is another favorite decoration of mine - its an ornament from Henry's teacher at daycare, who we love love love. I thought this was so sweet and such a great picture of Hen, I had to share!

Henry's godparents, Betsy and Brandon, gave the boys the most adorable bird ornaments for Christmas. My godmother always gave me an ornament every year for Christmas, and while I don't think its in the "godmother responsibilities" list, I thought it was so cool that they did the same for Henry (and John Dickson). I love ornaments anyway - we have a fairly decent collection and every ornament received since Adam and I got married is in a box labeled with whose it is, who it came from, what year, and why its significant. So, the boys got these birds in Columbia, and I was so worried about then getting messed up that I put them in a box with an outfit Henry got. I had to exchange the outfit for a bigger size, and when I went to the store (now in Greenville), I realized the birds were in the box. So I take the birds out and immediately put them in my glove compartment. A few days later, Adam gets something out of my glove compartment and tosses the birds on the seat. The next morning, I am getting ready to take the boys to daycare, and I am still concerned about the safety of these birds, so I take them out, put them on the hood of the car so I can buckle in the boys and run the birds inside...
I'm sure you see where this is going...
I drive off. Birds fly. Except that they cant fly. Its muddy. There's lots of traffic. They are small. I'm sure they are dead. I run through all the options in my head, including calling Betsy to find out where they are from and then replacing them. I decide its too late after Christmas and they are surely sold out. I know I'll hate myself if I dont turn around, so I do, drive all the way back to our house, turn around, drive off again, and I find them. On the side of the road. Clean. Alive. (Well, alive as an ornament can be). It was truly a Christmas miracle.
What is it with me and losing things on the side of the road???? In my defense, I always find them :-)

Decorating for Christmas
John Dickson had a BLAST decorating for Christmas. He was so excited to help with the lights, he could hardly stand it.

You can kind of sort of see here, there are two little trees and some hedges between them. John Dickson was on the step ladder and was trying to do the lights on the hedges. He leaned over to put the lights on and fell head first into the bushes. Like, head in bushes, body hanging out. Fortunately he was just fine and we were able to laugh. Hysterically. We still laugh about it.

John Dickson's Christmas Program
I told you about John Dickson's Christmas program, but here are the pictures:
Hen resting up for the big occasion:

Apparently he didn't realize what he was resting up for, because when he woke up, he was shocked!!

John Dickson up on stage (3rd from the left):

Henry thought John Dickson did great! (Yes, this is a happy face, not an angry face)

We had to pay $2 for "props" for the program. We had no idea what these props were, but we soon learned it was a santa hat and a jingle bell. John Dickson looked PRECIOUS, and I nearly died.

Ella's birthday - part II
How precious is this sweet birthday girl??

John Dickson handled Ella's party pretty well, I think. It was his first time going to something like that where he wasn't the one being celebrated. He was a little confused, and asked us a few times "where my birthday go?" He was quite happy when he got to eat one of these adorable frog cupcakes...with a birthday candle on top for him to blow out...

He had been partying hard at Granna and Papa's all week, and by the time the party rolled around, I think he was a bit partied out.

He still had a great time though. And Hen... well, Hen had his first snow!! Its kind of hard to see in the background, but it actually came down pretty hard and accumulated an inch or two.

Rewind
Sooo... back in December we made our way to Winston Salem for Ella's first birthday party. I still cannot BELIEVE she is one. Ella and John Dickson have become cute little buddies, and we've all decided that when Ella gets old enough to really communicate with John Dickson, they are going to be an unstoppable duo. Here's a picture of their first cousin bath:

As you can see, things were going well, until this happened:

And that was that.
John Dickson and Ella playing with her new tricycle

Ella loved her some birthday cake! I think she ate about 7 adult servings.

It was Hen's first party and he decided to drink to the occasion!

6 Months!!!!
Precious laughable Hen is 6 months old today!! John Dickson got so excited by this, he "choke up!" (Seriously, we may need to consult a doctor). Actually, Hen "choke up" too for the first time today. It was just a choke up day in the Kelley household. Anyway, here is Hen's latest, in no particular order.

I think I mentioned before, Henry is eating solids and is quite the champ at it! He's had green beans, peas, avocados, butternut squash and carrots. He eats his veggies twice a day and continues to drink milk like its his job, even at night... ::sigh:: Last night he ate 4 times. Granted, that was unusual even for Hen these days, but he still wakes up between 3 and 5 to eat. A couple times he made it to 6:30, but it would seem he let John Dickson know it was John Dickson's shift, as I still had to get up at 2am for Spiderman or Woody's hat related emergencies.
I think today might have to mark the day as Henry's official "Henry can crawl!!!!" day. He's been doing some pretty serious planks and doing the worm all over the floor, and he's been hanging out on his hands and knees as if he knows what he's supposed to do, he just cant quite figure out how to make his body do it. Trust me, I recognize it - I spent like 10 years doing the same thing in dance class. Anyhoo, he recently started doing the right motion with his arms and his legs, just not in unison. Today he made some pretty good strides, and did some official crawling. I predict by next week he will be flying through the house. He and his brother will be unstoppable. Don't be surprised when you see a white flag flying at our house. They win. We surrender. We just do.
For such a little dude, Henry has had a record amount of snow! He brought in his 4th official snow (he's 6 months - everything in this post is going to be "official") this week. This was particularly awesome, as Adam and I have not been to work yet this week. This is also the anti-awesome, as we have been trapped in this house for way too long. Not literally trapped, but more of a dont want to risk it kind of trapped. 8 inches of snow does not quickly melt.
Henry has really started playing with his toys. I don't remember John Dickson being this interested in toys at this age. In fact, we never really carried them around in the diaper bag, because it was kind of pointless. Hen, on the other hand, loves them! He has also started his obligatory baby obsession with electronics. The child is desperate for my phone.
Hen has several nicknames in our house, including Henry (just kidding), Hennis, Hennis Bear, and McGuinness. Even John Dickson calls Henry "Hen" and "Hennis".
Henry likes John Dickson's blankie, Buzz and Woody. How do I know this? Because John Dickson is the best big brother ever and loves to share his toys with Henry.
Henry has no teeth. John Dickson likes to remind us of this frequently. It was an observation he made all on his own, and he likes to keep us up to speed on the happenings in Henry's mouth. Hen loves to chew on things and loves to put anything and everything in his mouth, but otherwise shows no sign of teeth on the near horizon. I love this - toothless babies are precious.
Henry is much improving on his naps and is napping about an hour or more twice a day. ::angels singing::
Henry LOVES to laugh and smile. (Note - This is the only time you will EVER hear me compare my children to dogs - it's quite the pet peeve of mine; and no, I don't think owning a dog is good practice for having kids) Anyhoo, Hen is like a dog that way. So so so easy to make happy. We do this bit where I say "Hi" or "Mama" or I fake sneeze, and the child thinks it is HILARIOUS. See? It doesn't get much easier than that. He also continues to think his brother is HILARIOUS. And he is super duper ticklish.
Henry growls. Thank you, Ella.
That's about it! Stay tuned for Christmas posts and pictures in our Greenville blizzard 2011. At this rate, they should be up sometime in March. I mean, I kid, but seriously, its busy season. The joys of accountancy. In the meantime, here's a sneak peek of Hen's first Christmas.

December
World's worst blogger. I have been so terrible! Our computer is not in the best of health these days, and so pictures stay on the camera forever and I cant easily get the ones on the computer uploaded because the screen is sort of shifted... yeah, its a mess. And then of course there is the issue of time, of which I have none. My only free time lately has been consumed by The Bachlor and Modern Family. And I couldn't possibly give either of those up, now could I???
Where to begin, where to begin...
So, on Thursday night, the week before Christmas, John Dickson made his debut in his first Christmas program. Adam and I almost got into a knock out brawl, as I wanted to get there super early and, despite our best efforts, we may have been even a few minutes late, and yes, we were on the back row, and yes, I may have been slightly testy about it. (I know that doesn't sound like me, but just take my word for it).
But then that little man came out, wearing his Christmas outfit with a Santa hat, shaking his jingle bell, and hopping up and down. All was right in the world. The pictures didn't turn out too well because we were in the back of a dimly lit room, but we got some pretty good video. (Can you still call it video? I do.)
The next night, Nana and Grumps came to so generously babysit the munchkins while Adam and I went to my office Christmas party. Adam Kelley cleans up nice. A good time was had by all.
I lured my mom up to Greenville with the promise that I would go shopping with her ALL DAY Saturday. And let me tell you, we shopped til we dropped. Henry came along and was remarkably good. John Dickson "choke up" that morning, so he stayed home with Daddy and Grumps, watched The Lion King and shot birds on the Wii. That night we made the annual trip to Hollywild. I'm pretty sure my dad enjoyed it the most out of anybody - he was pretty thrilled with touching a bison. I cant say I blame him, I was the same way last year, but now I'm a seasoned vet. I've got new goals now, and they may or may not involve riding a giraffe.
So when I was in high school, my mom would occassionally take me out of school for a day in December and let me go shopping with her. I always loved it, and so I have vowed to give each of my boys a day in December where we will just go do fun things and not be at school/work. Henry is still a little too young, but John Dickson and I had a day, and we lived it up. We started off by playing putt putt (the kid got a legitimate hole in 3 and hole in 4 - he is amazing at putt putt), had a lunch date at McAlisters, went to see his very first movie (Yogi Bear - where about an hour into it he said "I gont wanna watch this tv anymore), went to Barnes & Noble to play with the trains, went to Trader Joes to buy carrots for the reindeer, and then went home and made Christmas cookies. Then John Dickson "choke up." You will find that this will be a recurring theme in our Christmas festivities. As a side note, John Dickson insisted that we get bananas for the reindeer in addition to carrots. Then he insisted on eating one, so I let him have one while we finished getting our groceries. The next day, John Dickson had another banana. Then he told Adam that Adam couldn't have a banana because they were for the reindeer. Then John Dickson had his 2nd banana of the day. Either the child thinks he is a reindeer, or he just knows how to get what he wants. So that was John Dickson/Mommy day 2010.
So that about brings you up to Christmas Eve.
To be continued...
