A 2 Week Comparison

Just for fun, here is a picture of John Dickson in his lil dino outfit on his birthday and then again two weeks later. He barely looks like the same baby! But we're trying to ignore that because his mom and dad want him to stay little forever.

I found my thumb!

John Dickson finally found his thumb, but only for one night... fortunately we caught it on camera to look at until he finds it once again.

With or without the thumb, he's a pretty content little baby. We have to wake him up about as much as he has to wake us up! And he loves his mom's singing - talk about an easy going kid!

John Dickson's had a pretty good first few weeks of life, with grandparents visiting to make sure the spoiling is off to a good start. His mom and dad were pretty spoiled too - it was sad to see the grandparents go! He also got to meet Barbara and his Aunt Lauren, who is finally back from Europe.

Doctor Visit

The little guy went in for his first visit yesterday and passed everything with flying colors. Turns out he doesn't like being weighed (even though he's already gained 5 ounces) and continues his distaste for being naked. However, one checkup and two dirty diapers later he was out with a clean bill of health and we don't need to take him back until May 5. There should be some new pictures and hopefully a video up on the site by tomorrow. The video is contingent on how much time I don't want to spend studying Herpetology.

Until next time.

Beginnings

Hello to everyone that's checking this out, and thank you for sharing this experience with us. Amanda and I both wanted to have a way for all of our family and friends to keep track of the new little guy in our lives. Thank you to everyone for all of your prayers, warm thoughts, and well wishes as they have certainly been taken to heart and appreciated over these past months, and particularly the last few days. We look forward to introducing him to all of you in person, but until then photos and video will have to do. I'll try and be faithful to updating this thing at least once a week, but no promises as our lives are crazier now than they've ever been.
So far, parenthood has been an amazing experience that continues to change how I look both at the world and at my wife. I am learning in my own fumbling and awkward way to be a good dad, but Amanda was born a mother. From the second John Dickson emerged she knew him, everything about him, and in the instant she first held him I knew that I am truly blessed to have this beautiful and gracious woman be the mother for my child. As much as I was unprepared for the beauty and fulfillment of marriage, parenthood has blown me away.
