One last picture

Here is John Dickson in his tux pants and jacket... unfortunately, its the only picture we have from John Dickson's valentines playdate with his Granna and Papa. Next visit we will have to remember to pull out the camera...

More pictures

Check out those mad standing skills!

How cute is he???

I cannot believe I forgot to mention this in my last post... John Dickson got sent home with an "uh oh report" the other day at school. The description of what happened read like this:

"His friend wanted the toy he had, so his friend took the toy and pushed John Dickson into the bookshelf"

And then here are some of the promised pictures:

I have lots of pictures to post, and as soon as I remember to bring the cable I need to work, there will be pictures! In the meantime... John Dickson has been making his family rounds.

His Granna and Papa came up for valentines day to give us the chance to go out... we didn't even remember how to go out?!? Fortunately, it was like riding a bike. Anyway, they brought John Dickson's tuxedo that he will be sporting to a few weddings this summer. He may not be allowed to walk down the aisle with a tiny pillow and fake rings for Aunt Lauren and Uncle Jared, but he'll still look the part! He thought his Papa was pretty funny, and spent a lot of time trying to impress him. John Dickson would do something you could tell that he clearly thought was silly, and he kept looking over at his Papa to see if he was watching. It's interesting to see who he decides he wants to impress, but it seems to be his Papa and his Uncle Jared. But that kid always LOVES an audience!

This past weekend we went down to Columbia for my dad's birthday. The grandparent names seem to change all the time in the Propst household, but I hope we've settled on Grammy and Grumps. So we'll go with that for now. John Dickson, once again, was terrified of his Grumps! We've never been able to figure out what exactly that is all about, but its really strange. All little kids adore my dad, but John Dickson is completely scared! He did warm up to him after a little while, and even allowed himself to be alone in the room with that scary grandpa.
Lauren and I made a shirt for my dad when we were little with our handprints on it that said "Love pats for our daddy". So John Dickson recreated the shirt with love pats for his grandpa. This was actually really fun for us to do, as John Dickson loved sticking his hands in the paint. Getting him to uncurl his fingers was a slightly different story. The shirt was made with love... but it wasnt pretty :-)
Anyway, John Dickson was in an incredible mood this weekend, and he had a lot of fun in Columbia.

I don't think a day has gone by in the past 10.5 months where we have not heard how much John Dickson looks like his Grumps. This past weekend my mom pulled out my dad's baby pictures and we all had a look. Surprisingly, John Dickson looks NOTHING like baby Grumps. It's all very strange. However, there are pictures of me as a baby that are so entirely dead on, they are identical to John Dickson. I will have to see if I can take a picture or scan them or something. Its crazy! Adam thinks all of this is very funny... that my dad looks like a baby, and that I looked like a boy. I noticed the resemblance to my memory of what I look like in my baby pictures, when John Dickson was dressed in pink, but I had no idea just how much we looked the same until I saw the pictures again!

We took John Dickson to the park recently and helped him go down the slide. He seemed slightly amused, but mainly just confused.

You know the kid is growing up at the speed of light, so every day there seems to be a new development - these are the latest:

- John Dickson is a clapping MACHINE!!!! He started clapping with us a week ago, but daddy/John Dickson time on Saturday was spent doing nothing but clapping, I'm pretty sure, and now he is a champ! And he does it to show he is happy too, which is really cute.
- John Dickson is a standing MACHINE!!! Well, he stands. He's gotten really good at standing when we put him on his feet and let go. He'll stand for maybe 10 seconds, and he has even bent down and picked up a toy and continued standing. I really hadn't seen him stand by himself, other than once or twice a while back, so seeing him do that was really weird for me! It looks like an optical illusion, because of course that's not really my child, standing, all by himself...
- He has started to really really think about what he wants to do. He will see a toy across the room and stop and stare at it for probably a minute or two before he decides whether or not he wants to go for it. After he eats his dinner, we let him hold his empty jar and spoon, and he tries really hard to get the spoon in the jar. It takes him a few tries, but you can literally watch him think about how to get that spoon in, and he gets it! He doesn't have a fluid motion of jar to mouth, but he definitely knows what to do with the spoon.

I think that is about it! Other than that, John Dickson is down to 1 bottle a day - his bedtime bottle, and he hasn't even had that in 3 days. We're trying to turn that into a sippy cup as well. The last 2 nights he has given himself the cup and gone to sleep in the car (late night travels!), so tonight will be the first time at home. We'll see how it goes... Also on that note, last night is the first time John Dickson has EVER EVER not woken up in the transition from the car seat to the crib. We weren't expecting it at all, but didn't want to wake up that exhausted little guy! So he slept in his blue jeans last night... I loved just carrying him into the house sound asleep! It was too precious.

Those 3 teeth...

John Dickson's good buddy Jennifer came to visit last weekend and she picked up my slack a little and took some pictures! We wish Jennifer would move back to Greenville! HINT HINT!!!!!!!!!! If you look closely at the 1st picture, you can see John Dickson's top tooth coming in.

P.S. John Dickson cannot be wearing this shirt anymore. He looks too old in it.

Talk about a bad day!

Dear Ms Teacher Jan, Ms Teacher Jessica, and Ms Teacher Stephanie,

Next time daddy forgets to pack my extra clothes, please just leave me naked.

Sincerely,

John Dickson.

Those cute little shoes...

Yep - Still here...

I've been double bad lately... I haven't blogged because I haven't had pictures available to post. I haven't had pictures available to post because I haven't taken any. John Dickson turns 10 months tomorrow and we feel like we missed the entire past month! On my nights to pick him up we don't get home until 6:15 at best, and he's usually sacked out by 7:30! On Adam's nights to pick him up... I just don't see him at all. Not exactly ideal, but we're just trying to do the best we can with what we've got right now.

John Dickson has started standing up ,briefly, on his own. He usually gets really excited and throws his arms up in the air. I think he does it before he can realize what he is doing! He walks a tiny tiny bit with you holding his hands, but he usually just likes to use you as his Johnny Jump Up... or just sit. I don't think he will be walking anytime soon, as he doesn't seem at all interested in doing so. Not a whole lot of progression with the finger foods, but I'm in no hurry to push it. I'd hate to give daycare an excuse to try to feed them their biscuits and gravy, or fish sticks and tator tots, but we won't go there... Daycare also recently required us to bring John Dickson in shoes because they were convinced he would slip in his socks that have grippers on the bottom. I don't usually put shoes on John Dickson because they seem to just trip him up... So, against what I thought was my better judgment, we bought John Dickson his first pair of real shoes, and surprise surprise, he got 2 "boo boo reports" last week. But the shoes are pretty adorable. We did get pictures, and I'll put them up as soon as I can. Just imagine the world's tiniest Nikes. The shoe box was like the size of one of those single serving cereal boxes. Even Adam didn't want to throw it away! And we didn't.

Some stories from the last month:

I was watching Ellen while eating my lunch, with John Dickson beside me in his entertainer. I had carried my hot bowl in with a kitchen towel, which John Dickson snagged. I was engrossed in the survivors from the plane crash telling their story, when I noticed John Dickson kept squealing. I looked over and caught him playing peekaboo with the kitchen towel! He would hold it over his face for a few seconds, and then jerk it down and squeal. Once I started paying attention to him, he would squeal and then follow that up with a big long belly laugh. It was by far the funniest and most adorable thing I have ever seen him do! A few days later, I was reading John Dickson a big book (a large book, not gone with the wind or anything), and Adam appeared in the doorway. John Dickson mushed his face up against the pages and stayed like that for a few seconds, while we wondered what in the world he was doing. Then he popped up and squealed at Adam. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Another version of his newly learned game of peekaboo.

I hate to say I missed this next one, which also involves a kitchen towel... Adam had John Dickson on the floor with his sippy cup, and John Dickson had grabbed the kitchen towel from the oven door. Adam looked over to see John Dickson holding the towel, but no cup. He said "John Dickson, where's your cup?" and then John Dickson grinned and whipped the towel away to reveal the cup underneath. He said the timing was perfect and it looked just like John Dickson was performing a magic trick.

John Dickson also has another new game. It's his first blantant devious behavior, and I have to try my hardest not to crack up. So far I've been very good, but its not easy! John Dickson has this really weird box plugged into an outlet in his room that you can't unplug, but it has wires sticking out that go into the wall (I know, I told you, its weird). We have no clue what it's for or how to get rid of it. Anyhow, we don't want John Dickson to pull on the wires, so he is not allowed to touch it. The past 2 weeks or so, he has crawled over to it as fast as he can, he pulls himself up on it, and then turns around to look for me. As soon as he sees me he smiles, and when I say "no", he cracks up until I come grab him. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

John Dickson continues to taunt the dogs with his food. He hasn't really picked up many new sounds, but he doesn't really roll his tongue or do his radio static sounds anymore. He still doesn't "get" his cookie jar where you put the different shapes in, but he has this other toy that pops balls up, and he likes to drop the balls back down in. He still loves bath time, even though Ellie decapitated his little ducky. And that's about it for now! I'll be sure to post pictures soon, including one where you can see his 3 teeth. 3.
