Yep - Still here...

I've been double bad lately... I haven't blogged because I haven't had pictures available to post. I haven't had pictures available to post because I haven't taken any. John Dickson turns 10 months tomorrow and we feel like we missed the entire past month! On my nights to pick him up we don't get home until 6:15 at best, and he's usually sacked out by 7:30! On Adam's nights to pick him up... I just don't see him at all. Not exactly ideal, but we're just trying to do the best we can with what we've got right now.

John Dickson has started standing up ,briefly, on his own. He usually gets really excited and throws his arms up in the air. I think he does it before he can realize what he is doing! He walks a tiny tiny bit with you holding his hands, but he usually just likes to use you as his Johnny Jump Up... or just sit. I don't think he will be walking anytime soon, as he doesn't seem at all interested in doing so. Not a whole lot of progression with the finger foods, but I'm in no hurry to push it. I'd hate to give daycare an excuse to try to feed them their biscuits and gravy, or fish sticks and tator tots, but we won't go there... Daycare also recently required us to bring John Dickson in shoes because they were convinced he would slip in his socks that have grippers on the bottom. I don't usually put shoes on John Dickson because they seem to just trip him up... So, against what I thought was my better judgment, we bought John Dickson his first pair of real shoes, and surprise surprise, he got 2 "boo boo reports" last week. But the shoes are pretty adorable. We did get pictures, and I'll put them up as soon as I can. Just imagine the world's tiniest Nikes. The shoe box was like the size of one of those single serving cereal boxes. Even Adam didn't want to throw it away! And we didn't.

Some stories from the last month:

I was watching Ellen while eating my lunch, with John Dickson beside me in his entertainer. I had carried my hot bowl in with a kitchen towel, which John Dickson snagged. I was engrossed in the survivors from the plane crash telling their story, when I noticed John Dickson kept squealing. I looked over and caught him playing peekaboo with the kitchen towel! He would hold it over his face for a few seconds, and then jerk it down and squeal. Once I started paying attention to him, he would squeal and then follow that up with a big long belly laugh. It was by far the funniest and most adorable thing I have ever seen him do! A few days later, I was reading John Dickson a big book (a large book, not gone with the wind or anything), and Adam appeared in the doorway. John Dickson mushed his face up against the pages and stayed like that for a few seconds, while we wondered what in the world he was doing. Then he popped up and squealed at Adam. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Another version of his newly learned game of peekaboo.

I hate to say I missed this next one, which also involves a kitchen towel... Adam had John Dickson on the floor with his sippy cup, and John Dickson had grabbed the kitchen towel from the oven door. Adam looked over to see John Dickson holding the towel, but no cup. He said "John Dickson, where's your cup?" and then John Dickson grinned and whipped the towel away to reveal the cup underneath. He said the timing was perfect and it looked just like John Dickson was performing a magic trick.

John Dickson also has another new game. It's his first blantant devious behavior, and I have to try my hardest not to crack up. So far I've been very good, but its not easy! John Dickson has this really weird box plugged into an outlet in his room that you can't unplug, but it has wires sticking out that go into the wall (I know, I told you, its weird). We have no clue what it's for or how to get rid of it. Anyhow, we don't want John Dickson to pull on the wires, so he is not allowed to touch it. The past 2 weeks or so, he has crawled over to it as fast as he can, he pulls himself up on it, and then turns around to look for me. As soon as he sees me he smiles, and when I say "no", he cracks up until I come grab him. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

John Dickson continues to taunt the dogs with his food. He hasn't really picked up many new sounds, but he doesn't really roll his tongue or do his radio static sounds anymore. He still doesn't "get" his cookie jar where you put the different shapes in, but he has this other toy that pops balls up, and he likes to drop the balls back down in. He still loves bath time, even though Ellie decapitated his little ducky. And that's about it for now! I'll be sure to post pictures soon, including one where you can see his 3 teeth. 3.
