John Dickson Meets Santa Claus Part I
While getting his 7 month pictures done yesterday (in the buff, I might add), he met the one and only Santa Claus. It looks like Santa will be leaving the presents on the front porch this year, because he isn't getting within 100 feet of John Dickson!!! The poor little monkey was terrified. He hasn't developed stranger anxiety yet, so it must have been the beard and the big red suit, but he dug his tiny little nails into me and gripped with both arms. He didn't even want to LOOK at Santa. It helped when Santa took his gloves off, but by then it was already too late. Maybe he'll change his mind come Christmas morning... I hate to give away surprises, but Santa happened to tell me he's already bought John Dickson some socks, and you know how exciting socks are! We aren't worried ;-)

My Little Monkey
Changing time has become quite the challenge recently, as John Dickson tries his hardest to roll over and then crawl the few inches to the edge of his changing table. This is what Adam found tonight as I tried to get John Dickson ready for his bath... and suddenly it all makes sense... we gave birth to a real live monkey.

As you can see from the bath pictures, John Dickson has regained the weight he lost while sick, and then some. We think he's gained 3 lbs in the last 3 weeks...

Wait... is that a baby, or a giraffe??
John Dickson's first Halloween was really fun. He spent the day decked out in his "boo" socks and various Halloween bibs. We dressed him up to answer the door and hand out candy, but sadly, we only had 4 trick or treaters. When the first kid came, I was holding John Dickson in one hand and the bowl of candy in the other. I closed the door with my foot and looked down to find John Dickson had helped himself to some candy - very sneaky! He didn't make it past the first trick or treater - I guess all the excitement just wore him out! As you can see from the pictures, Big Linda and Grandpop came down to partake in the festivities. Now, on to Thanksgiving :-D

Go tigers!!

Sorry, no pictures
Yes, we have been very bad about posting pictures! And here's why... we got these new phones a couple weeks ago, and the picture quality is so good on them that we haven't been busting out the real camera. Also, the battery is dead. But I promise to have some new pictures up before too long.
John Dickson is WELL!!! Right after he started to feel a little better on Thursday, he came down with another round of the stomach bug. He had to miss his last day of "school", and didn't even get to say goodbye to his beloved Rachel. I went a few times on my lunch break, and the two of them were always playing together on the floor. She would put her forehead to his forehead, and he would lay his head on her booty. Now if we catch him doing that in a few years... it'll be a different story ;-) But the little monkey is doing well and is back to his chipper self.
John Dickson went for his 6 month check up this week (it was one of his 3 visits). He got FIVE shots, and cried for less than a minute!! It was a remarkable improvement from his previous shots. His weight was down from being sick, so he had dropped to the 29th percentile, weighing in at only 16.5 lbs. A month before he was 17.5, so who knows how much he weighed before he lost... Dr. Greene thought he was right on target, developmentally, but thought he should be babbling more than he is, which is pretty much not at all. He's still not close to having any teeth, which is just fine with us!
He's back to eating solids, although this time he's a little more picky... and I'm about to give up on bibs! Instead of saving his clothes, it just adds to the laundry. John Dickson shoves his hands in his mouth, then wipes them on everything, while scrunching his bib up and trying to cram it in his mouth. We have to hold the jar in front of him so he thinks he can get it... then as soon as his hands leave his mouth to reach for the jar, bam - spoon in the mouth. Works like a charm :-)
John Dickson finally "gets" his Johnny Jump Up, and is a jumping machine now! And we say "John Dickson, did you ju-ju-ju-ju-jump?" and he goes nuts!! It gets a big belly laugh everytime. He also has thoroughly enjoyed the cup that Dick passed down to him. Bobbie told us about how Dick put dents in the cup by banging it on his highchair, and that they hoped John Dickson would add some dents of his own - and oh man is he ever working on it! He bangs that cup on everything.
We did bust the camera out on Saturday for John Dickson in his "sneaks" that Great Mimi made for him. He wears them every gameday, but we keep forgetting to take a picture! We'll have that up soon.
Check back soon for pictures of John Dickson in his giraffe costume (Granna - we saw the giraffe at Costco, and its not the same!) We realized the other day that on our first Halloween as a married couple, Adam and I carved a giraffe jack o lantern. So the giraffe is perfect for John Dickson! And he has his own baby pumpkin on the front steps, next to our gigundo pumpkin.
Until next time...

A New Record
Tomorrow will be John Dickson's 3rd doctor's appointment in a week. He came down with a fun stomach virus (which he graciously shared with his mom), and just when he started feeling better, that's when he started getting diarrhea (which, thankfully, he kept to himself). He finished up with a nice cold (which he graciously shared with his mom), and is now trying to wrap that up while dealing with 2 legs COVERED in bug bites (we thought it was a rash) and some wicked diaper rash.
So far he has laughed at only four things this week:
1. Bouncing on the bed with his daddy
2. Ellie and her squeaky ball
3. Putting his hands in my mouth and me "biting" them (I know... how can I expect NOT to contract whatever he's got??)
4. Having a wet washcloth tossed on him in the bath

Aaaand he's mobile...
John Dickson started crawling last week! (His version of crawling, anyway). He does a little teepee thing where he puts his feet on the floor, and straightens his legs with his cute little behind up in the air. Then he assumes the crawling position and goes forward a little bit before stopping to "swim" on the floor. Then he repeats. For a while he had his legs moving, but had his arms firmly planted on the floor. Now he has his arms moving, but cant quite seem to coordinate his arms and legs at the same time. Every once in a while he gets it, but then he forgets. We've got some great video of it, but you'll just have to wait until Adam comes home, as I am technologically challenged. But I do have a great picture of the teepee move that I will try to post tomorrow, along with some great pictures of John Dickson in his Jessica clothes that she sends pretty much every week... if someone could cut up that girl's credit card for us, that would be great :-D
Of all the dozens of times I have traveled with John Dickson, sometimes by myself, never have I forgotten to pack anything! (that I can think of anyway) One time I forgot bottles, but I still brought me, so that didn't count. This time I managed to forget a hat and sunscreen for the zoo, the camera, camcorder, and the clincher... food. John Dickson did have plenty of toys though! You know, the important stuff... This morning I created a google document packing list. I've said it before, but I don't think there's any such thing as "pregnant brain" - I think its just a permanent change. So needless to say, John Dickson's awesome weekend was not captured on camera, but that doesn't mean he didn't have a blast with his Nana (??), ______ (my dad), Granna, Papa, Uncle Jared & Aunt Wauren. (Someday he'll learn to pronounce those Ls...) He sure did miss his Drs Aunt Erin & Uncle Jason!!
